Research
Medulloblastoma causes up to one in five (20%) of all childhood brain tumours and, as with most brain tumours, the cause is unknown.
Research into brain tumours, to find either a cure or a means to ease the condition, continues all the time, both in Europe and America, however resources for research are very limited. Because the number of diagnosed cases of Medulloblastoma is quite small, it does not receive the priority for funding that goes to support research into more common forms of cancer. Whilst this is understandable, it makes it even more important that we support research.
Also, and again because the numbers involved are so small, it is harder to set up a research project where it would be possible to achieve conclusive results. This means that progress will always be slow. Again, that is not a reason for not carrying out research and that is why all of the money raised by the SDBTT William Doolin Fund is so important. The SDBTT William Doolin Fund only supports research into Medulloblastoma so every penny raised goes to that cause.
In addition to fund raising, the SDBTT William Doolin Fund also aims to raise public awareness of Medulloblastoma through the website; through publicity and through contact with influential figures and organisations so that more people are aware of this devastating disease.
