QUIZ NIGHT RAISES £700 FOR LOCAL CHARITY
Over 140 people enjoyed an exciting Themed Quiz Night at St Richard’s School which raised £710.00 for the SDBTT William Doolin Fund and ended with a ‘play off’ to decide the winner. The charity was set up to raise money to research for a cure for Medulloblastoma. St Richard’s was William’s school and the Trust is very grateful to the school for donating the venue for the evening. Seventeen teams competed in the inaugural SDBTT Themed Quiz evening, ‘20th Century Blues’ which ended with two teams, ‘Dyb, Dyb, Dyb’, and ‘Kitchener Drowns’, level on 93 points. After two nail biting tie break rounds failed to break the deadlock, the ‘Kitchener Drowns’ captain Norman Woolhouse had the correct answer to the third question to steal the competition from long time leaders, ‘Dyb Dyb Dyb’. The quiz, devised and presented by London based members of the Doolin family, Malcolm Doolin and Eve Wilson, helped the charity smash through the £10,000.00 barrier of funds raised since the charity was launched on December 28 2006, the day that would have been William’s eleventh birthday. William’s mother Maureen bravely returned to St Richard’s for the first time since William died to support the quiz and was a member of the third placed ‘Chelsea All Stars’ team. She was delighted with the generosity of the people who supported the quiz and wished to thank them for their kindness. A raffle held during the interval contributed to the funds raised on the night and included prizes generously donated by the Churchill Hotel, Dover; Kent County Cricket Club and the Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury, amongst others, as well as many from friends and family.
