SDBTT WILLIAM DOOLIN FUND
ANNUAL CHARITY CRICKET MATCH
Sunday 21 June 2009
Match Report
The third annual charity cricket match in aid of the SDBTT William Doolin Fund between Cheriton & Sellindge and some of Cheriton's past players took place on Sunday 21st June. The current Cheriton & Sellindge side got their revenge against the past players after two previous defeats by winning the match by 16 runs.
Both sides fielded 12 players. The current team won the toss and opted to bat showing confidence in their strong batting line-up. After a steady start from the two openers, the past players managed to make a break through but the present team's middle order batsmen kept the scoreboard ticking over despite losing wickets. David Jones (21 no) and Stuart Cook (32) were the mainstays in a total of 135 for 10 - other contributions came from Mark Relf (19), Dan Matcham (18) and Dave Osman (14). Pick of the bowlers from the past players were Stuart Ingleston (3-7), Steve Ramsay (2-4), Carl Mason (2-20) and Dan Rumens (2-22).
In reply, the past players lost a couple of quick wickets before Nigel Erylnne (11) and Darren Marwood (22) steadied things down. Middle order batsmen Stuart Ingleston (20 no), Steve Ramsay (21) and Dan Rumens (14) came to the rescue and took their side closer to the target. But Dan Matcham had other ideas as he took four wickets for only one run to clinch victory for the current side. The past players were finally all out for 119 runs, 16 runs short of the target when Stuart Cook took his fourth wicket for just eight runs.
Captain of current side, Mark Relf, received the William Doolin Shield from William's mother Maureen. Over £700 was raised from the match for the SDBTT William Doolin Fund. The fund would particularly like to thank David Fulton for organising the main raffle prizes and to everyone for their continued support.
