Conor’s Story

William was one of my best friends and I have a lot of happy memories of him and the times we spent together. Here is just one of them and every time I think of it, it always makes me laugh.

On a miserable, wet day in 2005 we were sitting in a boring lesson. The lesson was about friends and we were told to get into the groups of people we would consider our friends. The usual, Alex, Tom, William and I all huddled together and the teacher told us to decide on things we all like and like doing. After a long discussion we came up with the fact that we all loved the smell of petrol.

The teacher was asking around the groups to find out the feedback, the x factor auditions being the most popular. Suddenly the teacher's eagle eye fell on our group.
“So boys, what have you come up with?"
Tom replied "We all love the smell of petrol."
A big, wide, stern look spread across the teacher’s face and then came the sarcastic reply
”And how are you going to do something involving that?"
After many minutes of silence William blurted out
"We could go and sit outside petrol stations and smell petrol together."
But the teacher wasn't impressed and as we all sat there trying to hold in our laughter the teacher gave us a stern look and walked way. We all thought it was very funny.

I was very shocked and very sad when I heard about William. I will always miss him and his great sense of humour.
